Cycling Day 73 – Hoi An to Tan An
We’d had quite a bit of time off enjoying the food, comfort and ambiance of Hoi An. So after the full moon festival (a chilled affair with lights not a Thailand style party) we were both keen to get cycling again. The bikes had to be left outside with hotel security during our stay and whilst we were both glad to see they were still there, mine had acquired some rust and Sam had a flat tyre. After some faffing with the bikes we headed off, securing a spare inner-tube on the way out to Highway 1. My Vietnamese is improving – the shop owner was noticeably impressed when i said it was a 26 inch wheel – well i said ’26’ whilst pointing at the wheel 🙂
Today’s ride was fairly short but we weren’t sure if there were any places to stay in Tan An, so it could have been a lot longer. Now we’ve left Highway 1 we have to be a little more organised on where we are stopping to ensure we don’t end up cycling into the dark. Having sent our tents home we’ve no longer have that bail out option. The weather was grey and cold again – the three tubes of sun cream we are carrying seems a little excessive now. We’d read it was hard to find sun cream so we came prepared. Just so you know you can pick sun cream up in tourist hotspots.
The ride was fairly straightforward with no real hills. The real fun starts tomorrow.
