Cycling Day 81 – Boun Ma Thout to Lien Son
With tomorrows monster day from Lien Son to Dinh Van at the back of our minds, we set ourselves an easy target today. Lien Son is only 50k away from Boun Ma Thout so we were in no rush. However, as we grabbed our bikes from hotel security Sam soon realised his back tyre was flat again. This delayed us slightly as Sam hunted for the cause – a metal nail was the culprit. Whilst performing our pit-stop we got a few dirty looks from the hotel security team as a wedding party were about to arrive.
We’d read that Boun Ma Thout was windy and it certainly lived up to its reputation. Gusts of up to 20kmh and strong sunshine were present throughout the ride. Whilst this made it a little harder it was still one of the easiest days of the entire Vietnam leg. We also rode deliberately slower today to conserve our legs.
As we approached Lien Son we were surrounded by vivid green rice paddies in every direction. It was a green I’ve rarely seen in nature in the UK. It took a few attempts to try capture the view as the wind kept blowing over my bike.
We were in Lien Son early so we did a little ride around to locate somewhere good to stay and check out the food options. The nha nghi we found was cheap and reasonably cheerful.
